Working with Parents & Families

A majority of the time, academic advisors should be working directly with students. Academic advisors are encouraged to inform parents and families about general deadlines, policies and procedures that students follow. When parents and families are knowledgeable about the student experience, they can coach their student to meet expectations and act independently. Many students look to their families for advice and consultation about their decisions. The academic advisors should see families as partners in their students’ success.
